Security Awareness Quick Tip: How to Identify and Avoid Email Phishing Scams - Part 1

Phishing scams come in many different forms, from fake emails and pop-up ads to phony phone calls and bogus websites. One of the most common forms is the email phishing scam. How do you protect yourself against email phishing scams? Do not click any links, or download any attachments, in a suspicious email, instant message, or web page. Instead, open up your web browser and go to the website in question by typing the address directly into the URL bar. This insures you're going directly to the site you want rather than risking being tricked by a phony link that takes you to a bogus website that simply looks official. Be vigilant and pay attention. Phishers have been known to use real company logos to make their email, instant messages, and fake websites seem legitimate. They also use spoofed email addresses, which are similar to the actual companyĆ¢€™s address. However, the address may be misspelled slightly or come from a spoofed domain. http://bit.ly/2LiZVZl Symantec May 01, 2019 at 03:56PM
